“Noms De Pays” is a very interesting video created by Devon Johnson. The video displays the decay of things through time as well as the deterioration of our memories. This film is made of other films and pictures that appear to be pretty old. The music gives you an erie feeling as well. Devon is getting the message across that, the more you try to fight memories, the more distorted they become.
This is relevant to me as an artist because this work represents the style of wabi-sabi. Wabi-sabi is an art form where the natural decay of things is what makes them beautiful. Learning about this Japanese art form has helped me gain a different perspective and to realize that things don’t need to be shiny and brand new to be beautiful.
